Have you ever wondered where a single cup of coffee can take you?

My story begins in Baesa, Caloocan, Manila, where I was born and raised. Growing up in this community taught me resilience, humility, and the value of hard work. Life was not always easy, but it gave me the foundation to move forward and the desire to one day give back to the place I call home.

After finishing my studies in the Philippines, life brought me to Singapore. Living in a multicultural community broadened my perspective and reshaped how I saw the world. In the middle of its fast-paced grind, I came across something that would quietly shape the course of my life: coffee culture.

Singapore's coffee shops became my sanctuary. I was drawn not only to the craft of brewing but also to the way these spaces brought people together—where strangers became friends, where busy lives slowed down, and where stories unfolded over every cup. I spent countless hours inside them: working, reflecting, and finding peace. Over time, coffee grew from a simple habit into something I truly cared about.

It was in Singapore where the vision of Abakada Coffee first took shape. Inspired by the global coffee culture I came to love, I dreamed of creating a shop that Filipinos everywhere could proudly call their own. A coffee shop with a Filipino name, instantly recognized by kababayans around the world as Filipino-owned. My vision was not only to build a local coffee shop but to someday bring Abakada to the international stage, carrying with it our identity, values, and story.

When I returned to the Philippines, I started small businesses in Baesa, selling eggs, oils, and detergents. These ventures were simple but purposeful, a way to give back to the community that raised me. Yet my heart always returned to coffee.

Then came a turning point. During one difficult season, I found myself staring at my home espresso machine and asking: If not now, then when?

That question changed everything. With little knowledge but steady perseverance, I chose to chase the dream. I went back to Singapore to study coffee and later traveled to Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia to immerse myself in their coffee traditions. I also pursued local training and explored the Philippine coffee scene, further shaping my appreciation and understanding of coffee here at home. Each journey added to my learning and strengthened my vision for what Abakada could become.

We began humbly with a small roadside cart. It was exhausting and uncertain, yet it became the most fulfilling chapter of my life. From that cart was born our identity and tagline: "Built around people, always." It proved that dreams don't need to start big. They just need to start.

From that cart grew Abakada Coffee. Built on patience, resilience, and heart, it is more than a coffee shop. It is a story of perseverance, a place where people can slow down, connect, and find comfort in a cup.

And while our journey began here at home, the dream goes far beyond. My vision is for Abakada Coffee to stand proudly on the international stage—carrying with it a Filipino name, a Filipino story, and a Filipino heart. The road ahead will be long, but every cup brings us closer.

Because in the end, this is more than coffee.

This is the life I chose: simple, grounded, with coffee as the bridge that connects me to the community I call home.
